Non-Consensual Intimate Images

The sharing of Non-Consensual Intimate Images inflicts real harm. It is a serious form of abuse - a form of coercive control.

We know that in abusive relationships, intimate images are being used as a mechanism of power and control. In some instances, women are being coerced to stay in relationships out of fear of shame or the humiliation of those images being shared.

We have heard the threat of intimate images being shared being used in Family Court proceedings, as a means of pressuring women to settle disputes.

We welcome the prohibition of the posting or threat to post intimate images without consent. But given the grave impact and harm this has on its victims, and given the prevalence, Labor calls on the Government to make the sharing of these images a crime.
