As many of you already know, Mirvac has put forward a $1.4 billion proposal to redevelop the Carrington Road precinct. The plan, as viewed by my office, has Carrington Road being transformed into a string of 10 residential buildings, some being up to 35 storeys high.
The plan has the area being rezoned to accomodate 2600 apartments. It is unclear about the future of the thriving art precinct and the longstanding local businesses in the area.
Last month in Marrickville, at the Alex Travallion pavilion, I stood with you and hundreds of other residents in opposition to this proposal. This is not a suburb for unsympathetic overdevelopment.
The nature of this development is completely out of character with this area. There is no current infrastructure to the support the inevitable increase in vehicle and pedestrian traffic that will come to Marrickville should this proposal go ahead.
