Labor commits $1.3 million for women's sports facilities at Ilinden

An Albanese Labor Government would invest $1.3 million at Ilinden Sports Centre to construct a new pavilion including women’s change rooms and referee rooms.

Ilinden Sports Centre is the home base of the Rockdale Ilinden Football Club, which has grown to 1,000 registered players, and of the broader St George football community of 10,000 registered players.

This infrastructure will mean the club can secure a women’s license for representative football, and meet the governing body’s requirements for entry into the national second division.

This $1.3 million investment is a clear demonstration of Labor’s support for women’s participation in sport, and Football Australia’s goal of 50/50 gender equity in participation by 2027.

Comment attributable to Linda Burney:

“Football is one the beating hearts of our community. It brings people together and contributes to community cohesion and deserves our support.

It’s time everyone had the same chance to play they love and develop new skills while being active, which we know is good for people’s health.

Labor will invest in giving our whole community, and especially women and girls, the sporting infrastructure we need to deliver a better future for our community.”
